These skinks are strongly striped, egg-laying lizards most commonly found amongst coastal heaths and in warm, sunny areas in south-eastern Australia, Tasmania and some islands. They are active by day and feed on insects and invertebrates.

Mating occurs from November to December and eggs are laid in late December in clutches up to 10 in loose soil beneath rocks and logs. Several females may lay eggs in the same location. As many as 64 eggs have been recorded at a communal site. Threats include cats and kookaburras.
